Stephen Hawkey is a mixed media artist who draws on the material and ephemeral worlds of the past to make sense of reality in the midst of constant change. His thought-provoking works push the tangible to abstraction and, in the process, reveal the true challenges of life. Citing the words of William Burroughs, “When you cut into the present the future leaks out,” Hawkey says, “it is exposure to the present that I examine, reimagine, rework, realign and reconstruct to create art.”
